How We Met

(Sharnell) We met in 2009 at the Wednesday Winddown Concert at Centennial Park. Initially, I had no interest in Jay although I thought he was very handsome and such a gentleman. I admired his charm from a distance. We were both members of the Wednesday Winddown Line Dancers Group. Each week he was nice and often spoke to me and my daughters. One day my godfather, Gilbert Hunter, told me, “Girl, Smooth Jay has his eye on you, and he likes you”. I was shocked but honored. Not long after Gilbert spilled the beans, our journey began. Every week he would order wings or a salad and have it ready for us before line dancing class. My first visit to Jay's home, was a great night! He cooked chicken wings, we enjoyed some drinks, and line danced until 2:00 am. We had so much fun! Since it was too late for me to drive home, Jay prepared the “Peach Room” (his guest room) for me to sleep. To my surprise, I woke up to the smell of bacon cooking; I said to myself, “this man is cooking breakfast, he’s a KEEPER!” (John aka Jay) A few weeks later, I flew to Texas to visit some of my buddies for the Superbowl weekend. While watching the game I was thinking of Sharnell, so I called her, and that call lasted the remainder of the game! It wasn’t long after that I asked her to be my lady and gave her the nickname “Shorty”! 😊 During the last seven years, we’ve shared so much: love, laughter, joy, trips, church, praying together, family, friends and lots of great meals! May 6, 2022 we will unite forever and ever, continuing this love affair. Smooth Jay & Shorty ♥️
