Our Story

Jill first met Alex 3 months after moving to New York City. She had downloaded the dating apps for fun and told her friends she had no plans to settle down, but that quickly changed once she met Alex her first month on Hinge. On their first date, they made plans to meet at the Guggenheim Museum (a small, contained museum in case the date went south) at 10 in the morning (super early for Jill and an early sign of her interest). When Jill showed up, her first impressions were that 1) Alex had amazingly luscious hair, and 2) Alex was not good at taking photos bc he was 100x more handsome in person. Their date lasted until 5p, which was when Jill had to leave for dinner, making it the longest first date Jill had ever been on. Unfortunately, 3 days after their first date, Jill had to leave for 2 weeks to go home to San Diego for Thanksgiving. Then after 5 days in New York, she had to leave again for a month to go back to Taiwan for the holidays. In that short timeframe, Alex managed to show Jill his favorite sushi spot in the city (Blue Ribbon), took her to see New York City Ballet’s Nutcracker (his favorite holiday activity), and they had their first omakase together. After a month apart, they finally reunited and celebrated by spending New Year’s Eve together ringing in 2023 at Al’s favorite restaurant in the city (Raoul’s) and Django Jazz Club. Now that they were both in the city for longer than a few days at a time, they could finally spend time together consistently every week and actually get to know each other. Soon, they were off on their first international trip to Europe. In Paris, in the romantic glow of a sunglass store (Izipizi) while Alex was trying on a pair of square frames, Jill accidentally confessed her love to Alex for the first time. After both sides met each other’s families in July, Jill’s family invited Alex to spend Thanksgiving with them in Costa Rica. A year after they first met, Alex asked Jill’s family on that trip (early in the morning, when he knew she would be sleeping) if he could propose. 6 months later, Alex invited Jill and their families to spend Memorial Day Weekend together at his favorite place in the world (Nantucket), and pulled off the surprise of a lifetime with both sides of the family there to witness the moment (hindsight is 20/20, but Jill had no idea this was coming and was completely shocked). While planning their wedding for June 2025, Alex and Jill decided they didn’t want to wait over a year to be married. On November 13, 2024 (exactly 2 years from their first date), they tied the knot at New York City Hall. Today, they live in West Village with their crazy cat Toots, who adores Al and has (barely) come to accept Jill as a secondary female figure in Al’s life. Fun Facts: 1. Alex's sister Leigh picked Jill as her favorite of his matches based on her dating profile, giving her a much-needed boost in the queue 2. Alex (bravely) proposed without Jill's input and help on which ring to choose, polling family and friends to nail down the perfect choice 3. Paris was our first trip together -- which is how we ended up deciding on the wedding destination!
