Airbnb is another affordable choice for visiting Philadelphia. PLEASE NOTE: I suggest not getting a room in Spring Garden or Fairmount (the area north of the Art Museum). The Made in America festival takes place in that area of the Ben Franklin Parkway that same weekend and essentially cuts off the north area from the rest of the city. Please email us if you would like suggestions on which neighborhoods are friendly to stay in.

Flight

Philadelphia International Airport

This is the closest airport to the city. There is a direct train line that goes from the airport to downtown. If checking luggage, prepare to wait a little. I've never had a quick time at the luggage claim.

Train

SEPTA

For people coming in from the suburbs or to and from the airport, SEPTA is the way to go. The Airport Line is the most direct way to and from the airport and downtown. Get off at Suburban Station for the closest station to the hotels.

Travel Note

Parking

We suggest keeping the car at home. Philly is not a parking-friendly city and there are plenty of public transit, cabs and ride-shares (UBER and Lyft) . However, if you must bring your car, be aware that if you use street parking, make sure you read and follow the parking signs. The Philadelphia Parking Authority is quite ticket-happy. There are also plenty of garages in center city, but during Labor Day, they can be expensive.
