Nick and Shannon met when he was sent to Louisiana, where Shannon was living, for orientation for a new job in 2013. A mutual friend introduced us via Facebook so Nick could have a tour guide of the city while he wasn’t working. Neither one of us were looking for anything more than a weekend tour, so us finding a friend in one another was a bonus. When Nick returned to Colorado, we kept in touch over Facebook, Snapchat, and text. Eventually Nick had the nerve (😜) about 5 months later to ask Shannon if he could take her out the next time she was visiting Colorado. Luckily, our mutual friend’s birthday was a few weekends after he asked so Shannon made a weekend trip up to Colorado under the disguise of attending said party. After a SUPER romantic first date at Jimmy John’s at 2am after Shannon's flight landed, our spark grew into a flame. There have been a lot of ups and downs, but 4 years and one beautiful addition to our family, we are ready to tie the knot!
Here's a fun tidbit of info... Nick is TERRIBLE at keeping secrets. He also hates talking on the phone. So when Shannon was told that Nick had called and made a dinner reservation, she already knew something was up. Especially since Nick took Caleb to buy the engagement ring... We all know how well 6 year olds keep secrets. Although Caleb did surprisingly well and only slipped up once to say "Dad and I got you a surprise today." So long story short, Shannon was definitely expecting a proposal at dinner. We got through dinner, which was at the Melting Pot in a private room with a curtain separating us from the other guests and rose petals on table, and Nick paid the bill and we left! WITH NO PROPOSAL! Shannon was seriously thrown off, but went with the flow. On the back to the car, Caleb pops up from behind a planter on the sidewalk, saying SURPRISE, and Nick's sister Amanda walked up holding Coulter. They each had a shirt on to help with the proposal. Caleb's said "MOMMY WILL YOU" and Coulter's said "MARRY DADDY?" Shannon turned to look at Nick, who was down on one knee and asked the question himself. It was M.A.G.I.C.A.L!
