Shannon has always been a lover of scavenger hunts, so to make his proposal special, Karl knew that he had to put one together. After asking a handful of her closest friends to stake out sentimental spots around their neighborhood, Karl left Shannon a simple clue at their apartment's front door. Starting at their favorite ice cream spot, Shannon made her way around Logan Square, Chicago, and eventually found herself back at their apartment, where Karl was waiting with the ring that they had designed together earlier that year. And she said yes!
As you all know, we were all set to get married on May 24, 2020. Then a little thing called COVID-19 happened and we had to postpone. In the midst of rescheduling all of our vendors and informing everyone of the new date, we decided we just couldn't let this ruin our plans and decided to get married anyway. We went down to Lilacia Park in Lombard, IL with our masks and laptop in tow and Shannon's brother Sean (who was luckily already ordained by the Internet) married us via Zoom in a quiet corner of the park. We then ordered takeout from one of our favorite Italian restaurants, Monteverde, and spent the evening sharing our vows and drinking champagne. While it wasn't what we planned, we are so happy to finally be married. And now we get to celebrate twice!
