David met Shannon late one night at their freshman dorm during their first week at TCU. Shannon was hanging out with friends and David was coming back from his first rush party, and confidently sat with her and her friends. After spending some time with them, he got up and assured her that he wouldn’t forget about her… It was the beginning of a wonderful friendship the two enjoyed throughout their time at TCU.
David and Shannon’s love for one another grew over their nearly 2 years of dating, and it soon became clear that the two had something special. The opportunity to propose presented itself when Shannon’s dear friend Jordan and her husband Colton planned to come in town and asked to see if Shannon and David would like to go to the TCU basketball game. The plan was the perfect setup to get Shannon on TCU’s campus. Family and friends were notified, and with no time to spare, the day finally came. On a cold February day, they made it to the game (thanks Uncle Dave for the tickets!) and Shannon, while suspicious, was still in the dark. The first half passed by without incident, but with the clock ticking down in the second half David’s nerves began to get the best of him. Noticing his uncharacteristically quiet demeanor Shannon asked if he was feeling ok to which David, now famously stated “I’m just light headed”. Shannon responded even more memorably that that couldn’t be true because “You just ate a pretzel and drank a water!” They left the game and as David led Shannon through the TCU Commons, she knew something was up. At a turn in the path he pulled her towards the middle of the commons and got down on one knee at their favorite place on campus to ask her to marry him.
