Altun Ha
Altun Ha is one of Belize’s most accessible and well-preserved Mayan sites, located on the mainland. We added a link for a tour but this is also accessible if you rented a private car.
Belize City Site Seeing

Caves Branch
A must-do experience in Belize is cave tubing, a relaxing and unforgettable float through underground river caves, such as those in the Caves Branch area. After being fitted with life jackets and helmets, you’ll take a scenic 30-minute hike through the rainforest to the river. Each person rides in their own inner tube, which are often linked together like a floating “centipede,” as you drift through dramatic cave systems.
Xunantunich Maya Ruin Belize Tour
Belize is home to numerous Mayan archaeological sites, many of them located near San Ignacio, but Xunantunich is undoubtedly one of the highlights. Situated close to the Guatemalan border, the site is easy to reach—about 1.5 km from the main highway connecting Belize and Guatemala. Getting there is part of the adventure: you’ll cross the Mopan River on a small hand-cranked ferry, then follow a short (but uphill) road or walk to the parking area before exploring the impressive ruins.
Shark Ray Alley
Home to the largest barrier reef in the Northern Hemisphere—and the second largest in the world—the Belize Barrier Reef is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a dream destination for ocean lovers. Popular excursions include snorkeling at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and swimming with sharks and rays at Shark Ray Alley (yes, really!). These tours typically last around 3.5 hours and depart from both Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker. Please note: There are multiple vendors that offer these tours, don't feel pressured to book online. You can go in person and negotiate prices!
