Our Story

We both grew up in Alexandria, Minnesota, in the kind of town where you run into the same people for years and still never expect your whole life to come from it. In high school, Dylan had a bit of a wild side, and Shaneé was the rule follower who was focused on school. We knew of each other, but we were living in totally different lanes. Fast forward to July 2017, when our friends Shane and Meg got married. That night, we ended up on the dance floor together and shared our first kiss. It felt like one of those moments you never forget, even though the timing was not on our side. Dylan was living in Montana, and Shaneé was in Minneapolis, so life just kept moving. A few years later, in July 2020, we found ourselves together again on Shane and Meg’s boat, and something clicked all over again. Dylan was a little closer in North Dakota by then, and Shaneé was still in Minneapolis. Over the next year, we stayed connected, talking on the phone and keeping up with each other in a way that felt easy and natural. In July 2021, at Shane and Meg’s baby shower, we really hit it off. We had the kind of conversations that quietly change everything, the “if we end up closer, maybe we should actually try this” kind. Then, in August 2021, Dylan got the call that the Alexandria territory for his job was opening. That fall, we started spending more time together, and Shaneé was accepted into Nurse Anesthesia school at the University of Minnesota. In January, we decided to take the leap and see if long distance could work while we planned for what was next. On May 19, 2022, we officially started dating. Long distance meant countless miles in the car, and after a while, we knew we needed a break from reality together, just a trip to get away. One day at Zorbaz, Dylan suggested rock, paper, scissors. If Shaneé lost, he was booking the trip. She lost, and Dylan immediately booked tickets to Costa Rica. Most of Shaneé’s friends were convinced it was a proposal trip. Shaneé was not. Until day three, when Dylan took her up a mountain (after a 30-minute drive down a dead-end gravel road), got down on one knee, and completely surprised her with an engagement on April 22nd, 2025. We celebrated that night with a spur-of-the-moment dinner and tequila. In October 2025, we moved to Montana and finally closed the distance for good. Now, we get to celebrate all the moments, timing, and miles that brought us here, and we cannot wait to do it with you.
