Why We Planned - And Canceled - Our Wedding

Shane proposed on the afternoon of May 4th, 2025, and Kerri almost immediately started wedding planning! While both initially laughed at the idea of eloping (how could we ever when we are so close to our families!), we figured we could plan something "low key" that would still honor the love we have for each other and our excitement for the future. We came up with ideas to keep our wedding celebration small and casual that would optimize our time spent with one another and with the people who have supported and celebrated us along the way. After weeks of planning, meeting with vendors, budgeting (and panicking!), and even paying a deposit on our venue, anxiety was at an all time high. Everyone told Kerri to slow down, not to rush, and to just make the day whatever we wanted. For some reason, the anxiety never faded and even our best ideas left us feeling stuck. After looking at our total expenses one last time, we looked at each other on a Thursday afternoon and said, "What are we even doing?" We knew in that moment we wanted out - we couldn't fathom spending so much money on a one day event that would pull us in so many directions and away from so many of our future goals. Kerri finally said, "Should we just go to Blue Ridge?" Blue Ridge, Georgia was where we spent our first vacation together as a couple. It is also the location of the Sasquatch Museum - a place we joked about on our first date, vowing to go together one day. We packed up Petunia and drove 9 hours to a secluded cabin outside of town. We visited every brewery in town, devoured apple cider donuts, took a VERY rainy and borderline traumatic (IYKYK) hike out to a swinging bridge with our pup in tow, took photos with Sasquatch at the museum, and explored the downtown area, buying souvenirs and eating wonderful food the whole way. To us, Blue Ridge represents us coming together as a family early in our relationship, and we decided there was no better place to make our family official. Kerri promptly canceled our venue, we locked down an incredible elopement photographer, and began planning our adventure - one week in the mountains, surrounded by trees, hopeful for a Sasquatch sighting - all to get married, just the two of us. We have never been so excited and we can't wait to share our journey with you!
