Brooke jokes that she fell in love with Shane's mom before falling in love with Shane. While traveling through Houston to raise support for her ministry work with Cru at Cornell, Brooke crossed paths with Shannon Richards — Shane's wonderful mom — and she LOVED meeting Shannon. A few days later, completed unrelated to her work with Cru, Brooke and some friends drove to Dallas for Petra's final tour. An awesome, mutual friend, Austin, also happened to invite Shane, one of his best friends from highschool, along to the concert. There, they met, they talked, and neither of them thought too much of it. Then, Shannon asked Shane if he'd met Brooke at the concert. That was all the nudge he needed. Shane found Brooke on Instagram, and what started as a casual follow-up turned into three months of FaceTime calls stretching across the miles between Texas and New York. Eventually, Shane flew up to visit Brooke at Cornell — and while he was there, he asked her to be his girlfriend. From there, while being long distance, Shane and Brooke made the most of every visit — even going on a mission trip together to Bolivia. And now, they are so excited to enter into a marriage covenant together. Shane and Brooke are so grateful you're here to celebrate with them.
