Mind you, this is all from the eyes of me ( Betty ) I had just returned home from an internship in Prague. I had to sublease my apartment in Chicago for the summer, and when I was finished with the internship, I had to finish out the summer back home in Iowa. I was feeling brave, just being out of the country and all, and wanted to see to who was back for the summer to go to a show at the winery with me. I got on Facebook and shared that I was back in town, hoping someone would want to go with me. Shane, of all people, slid right into my inbox to share that he was going to attend the same show with his sister Shannan, and that I was more than welcome to sit with them. Mind you, I really didn't know Shane at the time - he was a lot older than I was in high school, so we never really ran in the same circle. I thought "why not, I just traveled to a foreign country, I can do this." So I picked him up and we went to get wine and listened to music. Now, remember, I was living in Chicago at the time, hadn't been driving for a while now lol so needless to say, it was a bit of a wild car ride to the winery. When we got there, we ordered a bottle of wine, which we shared over a bit of awkward conversation. ( Shane & I awkward you say? I know right ;) lol No matter how awkward our first date might have been, this was the very moment that I knew we spoke the same language of music. Years have passed now and STILL to this day, our love language is music.
Shane proposed August 8, 2020. When I walked down into the lobby of the hotel we were staying at, he started playing one of our favorite songs, K-Ci & JoJo - All My Life. He was incredible, and it was a complete surprise. I had no idea that he had been taking piano lessons just for this very day. He got down on one knee in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and I said "HELL YES!"
