A nikkah is the Islamic marriage ceremony and contract that officially unites a couple under Islamic law. It involves mutual consent from both parties, a verbal exchange of vows where they say "I accept," the signing of a marriage contract, and the presence of witnesses and an officiant. Key components also include the groom's provision of a mahr (a gift) to the bride and the importance of both parties agreeing to the union willingly.
A walima is the traditional Islamic wedding reception, or feast, that is celebrated after the marriage ceremony. It serves to announce the marriage publicly, show the couple's domestic happiness, and celebrate with family and friends
For those of you attending your first Nikkah/Walima feel free to dress in your favorite formal attire. If you are interested in dressing more traditional Pakistani attire you are more than welcome! Colors should be more on the bright/pastel side.
