What happened on that beautiful day in May... Mercury was in retrograde—a period that’s historically known to be a major pain—but everything still went perfect as two strangers went against everything they thought and believed in and gathered enough courage to meet. It all started with a DM...Shana was a fan of Christon’s music—finding complacence in his songs on faith and love—and she decided to reach out and send him an encouraging message. Consequently, he followed up thanking her. They quickly found that they had similar interests and a mutual attraction for one another, and they decided to meet for their first official date the following week. They caught an open Robert Glasper show at Crenshaw Mall that included a live jazz band and talented painters drawing in congruence to the show. Christon took Shana’s hand and led her through the crowd, making small talk and enjoying the ambiance. Later in the evening, they were able to catch a reservation for a beautiful rooftop dinner at Perch in Downtown L.A. As they cruised down the 10-freeway to get to DTLA, it was in that moment she could see in his eyes that the feeling was mutual, and she knew that they were in the same zone, on the same page. This small moment spoke volumes...nothing had to be said for each of them to recognize that they had so much in common and were going to love exploring those similarities and differences together. The vibe, the energy, the scenery of bright city lights—coupled with the attraction and anticipation of what was to come—made everything right. They arrived at Perch for their first dinner, and the rest was history. Shana moved to Ohio a year-and-a-half later to be closer to her Christon, and seven months later, he proposed. They plan to exchange nuptials at the end of April, where their union will be solidified amongst close family and friends.
