Beautiful hiking area with lookouts and many trails nearby in the Shawnee National Forest
Little Grand Canyon
A bit more of a strenuous hike, especially if it has rained recently. Beautiful views of the Big Muddy River and the Mississippi River floodplain
Giant City State Park
Lots of hiking trails and a great place to hang out for a day. We recommend the nature trail
Cache River State Natural Area
The most northern Cypress-Tupelo swamp. Great place to kayak or walk the trail to see this unique biome
Scratch Brewing Company
Awesome brewery that forages for or grows most of their ingredients. Also makes great sourdough pizzas. Cash only!
St. Nicholas Brewing Company
A solid brewery with decent beer and food. We recommend the DuQuoin location which has great food.
Honey Heist Mead
A great meadery. Carbonated (lighter abv) and traditional meads, which are honey wines
Owl Creek Vineyard
The Shawnee Wine Trail is right here! We really like Owl Creek because they have house made sangria, wine, and cider. Usually live music on the weekends too and are pet friendly in the yard.
Pomona Winery
Part of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail and one of our favorite wineries because they use other fruits, especially apples, to make their wine. Also, beautiful location in the woods that the owners built themselves.
Molly's Pint Brewpub
Our local brewery in Murphysboro. Small-batch brewed that are typically phenomenal beers
