Wills and I reconnected playing coed volleyball. When we saw each other at our first game, we both recognized each other’s faces from a housewarming party Wills had hosted the previous summer. At the time, we barely knew each other, but somehow our paths crossed again months later on the same team. It still feels special knowing that God was weaving our story together long before either of us realized it. From the very beginning, there was something easy and fun about being around Wills. Every Wednesday night, I found myself looking forward to volleyball more and more. Before long, he was finding little ways to flirt with me during every game, making me laugh from across the court, cheering me on, and always finding an excuse to talk after the games were over. Honestly, I probably spent more time chatting with Wills than actually making contact with the ball. We lost every game, but we found each other, and that was the real win. Wednesday nights easily became the highlight of both of our weeks. Eventually, Wills worked up the courage to ask me out for sushi, and I happily said yes. Not long after that, we went on a hike to Mayflower Gulch. Surrounded by the mountains, we spent the day talking, laughing, and getting to know each other on a deeper level. It felt peaceful and effortless, like we had known each other for much longer than we actually had. As we spent more time together, our connection continued to grow naturally. A few dates in, Wills invited me over to grill steaks on the roof. The dinner was amazing, despite Wills managing to catch the grill on fire. From then on, every week we would take turns cooking each other dinner, making even the simplest nights feel special. Somewhere between volleyball games, hikes, and rooftop dinners, we fell in love and the rest was history.
