Get outside! One of our favorite things to do when we visit Arizona is to hike. October is a beautiful time of year and the trails should be bumpin'. A few of our favorites are Camelback Echo Canyon, Lost Dog Trail (where Kris proposed), and Tom's Thumb. We have plenty of other recommendations but AllTrails is also a great resource.
The Old Town—also known as Downtown— district offers boutique shopping featuring souvenirs, jewelry and art with a Southwestern flair. A density of bars, lounges, restaurants and clubs offer myriad dining and nightlife opportunities within short distance of each other. And art fans can peruse the galleries of Main Street and visit the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West.
The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA), situated on a twenty-one acre, beautifully landscaped park in the middle of downtown Scottsdale, presents the best of contemporary art, architecture and design from around the world and from around the corner. Our nine to twelve exhibitions per year rotate continually so that a visitor will always experience the most current works of art that represent the thinking of the best and the brightest.
Legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright was so enamored with the Sonoran Desert in and around Scottsdale that he chose it as the site of his winter home and architectural laboratory. Taliesin West was built by Wright and his apprentices in the late 1930s, demonstrating Wright’s ingenious ability to blend indoor and outdoor spaces. A variety of public tours are offered, including the in-depth Behind the Scenes tour and enchanting Night Lights Tour.
See, hear and play instruments from around the world at the Musical Instrument Museum.
