Our Love Story

Somewhere between two continents, two cities, and two very different accents, our story began. Shai grew up under the bright South African sun, where life moves a little slower, family dinners stretch late into the evening, and the mountains meet the ocean in Cape Town. Sonya grew up in New York, in a Russian Jewish household where toasts and caviar filled every celebration. Their worlds could not have been farther apart geographically, but they were built on remarkably similar foundations: close families, deep Jewish roots, and a shared belief that life is meant to be lived fully - and with the people you love most. Like many modern love stories, it started with a swipe. Shai and Sonya met on Hinge in New York - one of those small, seemingly ordinary moments that quietly changes everything. What began as curiosity quickly turned into something deeper. There was an easy familiarity between them from the start, as if they had somehow known each other long before that first date. Perhaps the first true test of their relationship came far too early - an ambitious trip to Cartagena together. Most couples wait before traveling across the world together. Shai and Sonya did not. It was spontaneous, a little chaotic, and exactly the kind of adventure that revealed what they were building: a partnership full of laughter, curiosity, and the shared confidence that wherever they went, they would figure it out together. Back in New York, the relationship deepened. Weekends filled with lake house swims, late dinners, and conversations about everything from family traditions to the future they hoped to build. Before long, they decided to take the next step and move in together, turning two lives into one shared home. But Cape Town - Shai’s home - was always waiting in the background of their story. Their first trip there together felt like Sonya discovering a second world: vineyards stretching toward the mountains, warm summer evenings, and the kind of beauty that makes time slow down. It was a place that quickly became theirs as much as it was his. And then came the second trip. Cape Town has a way of making important moments feel inevitable. Somewhere between the mountains, the ocean, and the vineyards, Shai asked Sonya to marry him. It was not just a proposal - it was the beginning of a new chapter, one that would weave together South Africa, New York, Russia, family, tradition, and a lifetime of adventures still to come. And so their story continues - across oceans, cities, and time zones - always returning to the same simple truth: They found home in each other. We cannot wait to celebrate that home with all of you in Cape Town.
