Temperatures can vary in Montana this time of year so pack accordingly. Pack clothes for summer time conditions along with clothes for fall like conditions. (Pro tip) bring a rain coat just in case. Throwing a knit hat and gloves in your suitcase may also be a good idea, especially if you plan to go for an early morning hike! The key is to bring a few different layers.

Just a reminder

Question

Do I need bear spray?

Answer

If you plan on hiking, it is recommended to carry bear spray. However, do not purchase it here and try going through the airport with it. TSA will confiscate it. Whether you book a hotel or Airbnb, reach out to the host. Most of the times places have bear spray that you can borrow.

Question

Can I pet the wildlife?

Answer

No, please do not pet wildlife. While they look cute and friendly, they are not. View them from far away! If you have binoculars, bring them along. It will help to find wildlife on mountain sides.

Question

I have never been somewhere at such high altitude, how do I prepare?

Answer

Being at a higher altitude, there is less oxygen in the air and it may take you a few days to get acclimated. The week prior, drink as much water as you can. Flying and higher elevation will dehydrate you quicker than you think. Also try to avoid caffeine or alcohol the first day or two. Continue to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated. We have tested this theory and it works. Also being a higher elevation, you are closer to the sun. Come prepared with a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. We want you to enjoy your time in Montana! Follow these suggestions so that you don't feel sick the entire trip.
