Our Story

(From Brian's Perspective)

Sarah and I first met in November 2024 when our friend, Chris Owanesian, introduced us after church service at Plaza Baptist Church, and he later suggested I ask her out on a date. Sarah and I didn't connect again until three months later when I was baptised, publicly proclaiming my faith in Christ. On that Sunday, with some additional encouragement from Chris, Sarah (allegedly nervous) approached me after the baptism to congratulate me. I was standing with my family and quickly introduced her to who neither of us knew would be Sarah's future in-laws! Despite the awkward interaction, the following week at church we reconnected during service and hit it off in a conversation afterwards over our shared love and care for the rare disease community from my niece and God-daughter, Nora, and Sarah's work as a the dietitian on the team for the Ward Winslett Center for Complex & Rare Disease at Levine Children's Hospital. I asked for her number and our first date was a few days later on February 25th at Superica. The conversation flowed easily and ranged from our faith and testimonies to the instruments we played, leading to several more dates and a blossoming relationship over the following weeks. After only two months of dating, we were plunged into a season of hardship and grieving when Nora passed away. We saw a side of each other that few couples get the opportunity to see, let alone that early in a relationship, and the service, care, and support that we showed each other and my family built a deeply connected, loving relationship. After we each went on solo excursions to different corners of the world in September, I told Sarah that I intended to ask for her father's blessing to propose before the end of the year, which was met with tears of shock and joy. After receiving that blessing in October, I went into proposal-planning mode - learning Sarah's taste in rings, scoping out locations, and coordinating a celebration with both of our families and two friends from out of town, Hannah and Nicole who are both bridesmaids. On November 22, 2025, I brought Sarah to Freedom Park under the guise of a walk where our parents would meet for the first time. As we walked into the park, I turned to Sarah and said "We have made a lot of great memories here, let's make another one together... Will you Marry Me?" To which Sarah responded with some additional tears, a giant smile, and a yes mixed in there. Freedom Park holds many memories for us between our first photo to birthday celebrations, sweet picnic dates, and now our engagement! Engagement has already been a season of joy, challenge, and growth as we prepare to enter our marriage covenant with the mission of glorifying God by serving each other. We are excited to enter that union before you and can't wait to celebrate together in October!
