We've taken the train many times, from traveling within Spain it's a great option. There are over 7 trains a day from Madrid to Sevilla. You can leave from Madrid Chamartin Renfe ( railway station), or Madrid Puerta Atocha and arrive at Santa Julia in Sevilla. It is recommended to buy train ticket in advance, they sell out quickly.
