Meagan and David met at a work party at the bitter end of 2014. It was a classic love story: Meagan read the invitation wrong and showed up early. David, helping to plan the party, was skimming drink tickets and was the only one around for her to talk to. He gave her his watch at that party, but, at first, she barely gave him the time. After a successful cutting board joke in a Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Meagan began to let her guard down, David stepped up his game, and they bonded over education theory, treasure hunts, and stray cats. Life progressed and with it brought a cornucopia of highs and lows. It was at times blissful, crushing, exhilarating, serious, silly, sad, and, more times than not, fun as hell. But they put in the work. And the work paid off. David got sober, Meagan got even smarter, and on a May morning they were doing a crossword and drinking coffee as they were wont to do. David read out the clue: “Seven letters. To ask one’s hand in marriage.” Meagan responded with “Propose!” and so that’s exactly what he did.
