FAQs

Question

So your wedding is on a boat? How does that work?

Answer

Yes! The ceremony will take place on the top deck of the boat while we’re still at the dock and not in motion. Once the ceremony concludes, we will set sail and the reception will be a dinner cruise on the Potomac River hosted by City Cruises.

Question

Will I get seasick?

Answer

Seasickness on river cruises is rare. The boat will be in sight of the shore through the entire cruise, and the company has advised that passengers typically do not experience any seasickness.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

While we love your littles, we have chosen to have a child-free wedding, especially for their safety and your peace of mind given the nautical venue! If anyone needs help with making arrangements for child care, please let us know and we will do our best to assist!

Question

Do I get a plus one?

Answer

For guests with long term partners we are aware of, we have included your partner on your invitation. If you have a partner we are unaware of, please let us know and we can add them to your RSVP! Due to space constraints we will not be able to offer additional plus ones.

Question

Will there be food options available for me if I have dietary restrictions?

Answer

Yes! Our planned buffet menu will have choices for our vegetarian guests. If you are gluten free, let us know and the venue will make you a separate meal. If you have other dietary restrictions not accounted for here, please let us know and we can work with the catering staff to explore options!

Question

Is smoking allowed on the boat?

Answer

All interior areas of the boat are non-smoking areas. Passengers may smoke on any of the outside observation decks, but are not permitted to smoke on the top deck until the reception begins. Please note that there are strict coast guard regulations requiring that no objects be thrown overboard. Our boat docks right next to the coast guard slip so please don't get us in trouble!

Question

Will I be able to leave the wedding early?

Answer

The boat will be cruising throughout the duration of the reception and will only return to the dock 15 minutes prior to the end of the reception. We hope you'll be having so much fun you won't even notice!

Question

When does the wedding end?

Answer

The boat will return to the dock at 9:45 pm, and everyone must disembark by 10:00 pm.

Question

What colors shouldn’t I wear?

Answer

Avoiding white dresses seems like a safe bet. 😉 The wedding party will be wearing various shades of purple and dusty pink. You don’t have to avoid those colors, but Paige’s worst fear as a wedding guest is showing up accidentally wearing a solid color dress that’s the same color as the wedding party, and we know some of you think like her!

Question

Will there be a wedding cake?

Answer

Our venue serves a selection of desserts included with dinner, so we will be opting not to do a traditional wedding cake.

Question

Is there anything we can’t bring on the boat?

Answer

You will need to go through an airport-like security check to board. So anything remotely resembling a weapon will not be allowed. We have also been told that like an airport, guests will not be permitted to bring wrapped gifts due to inability to screen them. You may bring envelopes or gift bags that the agents can open and inspect. Our registry also allows you to have gifts shipped directly to us, if you choose.
