Picture this: It’s spring semester 2024 at a meeting for grove city college students participating in Freshman Orientation Board. The meeting begins with an icebreaker. “Everybody line up alphabetically by your dad’s first name.”Sterling walks up to the blond boy with the cool backpack. “Is this the S section?” “Yep.” “What’s your dad’s name?” “Sean” “How’s it spelled?” “S-e-a-n” “SHUT UP ME TOO”. That was our first conversation. Then it’s fall semester 2024 at Grove City College. Sterling is a senior, about to graduate in December, overcommitted to everything and bouncing around a hundred social circles. Seth is a junior, quietly existing with his studies and his friends on the AEX hall. Sterling decides it’s on her college bucket list to attend a Greek Formal before she graduates, and lucky for her, she’s in good standing with most of the guys in AEX. Her friend Josh promised he’d find her a date so she could go to formal, and sure enough, right before thanksgiving break, she got a dm. “Hey Sterling, it’s Seth. Will you go to formal with me?” Formal was a blast, Sterling fulfilled her bucket list item. Unbeknownst to her, by the end of the night Seth was fully in love. This girl asked more questions than anyone else he’d ever met, and he was captivated. 11 days later Sterling graduated. Seth said nothing of his feelings, and Sterling didn’t have a clue. In May she came back to campus for Commencement, not knowing Seth had been dreaming of her since she left. The day before her birthday, in typical Grover fashion, he asked her if she would go on a walk. Later that day, at the end of a long stroll through the neighborhoods, he told her how he felt. She didn’t shut him down, because he was cute and he’d been a great date to formal, so why not see where it goes? By the end of the summer she was just as in love as he was. Their relationship grew through many long distance FaceTime calls, letters exchanged, a chaotic road trip with friends to 4 different States, and hours upon hours driving back and forth between Grove City and Columbus. In September, Seth told Sterling he wanted to marry her (we love a man who knows what he wants). In October, they went on one of their favorite dates so far: driving to Pittsburgh from Columbus (3 hours) to a Mumford and Sons Concert! They then each had to drive back to their separate cities afterward (2 hours) to finally get home long after midnight. To give a hint as to whose idea that was, Seth recently told Sterling "dating you has taught me how to be more impractical....in a good way." On March 28th 2026, Seth surprised Sterling while she was on a hike with her friend Ashlyn (obviously a hike planned far in advance, good teamwork Seth and Ash). At the edge of a waterfall near Grove City he knelt down and proposed, and Sterling was speechless (quite the feat!). In June, after 13 months of distance, Seth moved to Columbus in the good old 6-1-4 where Sterling had been waiting for him. They cannot wait to step into this new covenant, truly it feels like we're living the answers of a lifetime of prayers!!!
