The First Night of Forever.
October 18, 2018. Seth and Sarah were working the Harvest Supper event as part of their Columns Society duties. They were placed at the silent auction tables, where guests were bidding on artwork from the Museum. Seth and Sarah sat next to one another all night exchanging stories about their childhood - Sarah who dreamed of being an artist as a little girl, and Seth who laid under a special tree at his nana and Pop's house. Seth was, ironically, responsible for the silent auction bidding of a painting of a similar tree. Sarah shared stories about her artwork, and later that night, Seth sent his first text to Sarah: "Sarah, I'm glad we got to finally talk tonight. I'm serious about wanting to see your heart. Hopefully got home and got warm!" To this day, Seth swears he meant to say "I'm serious about wanting to see your art" but says it autocorrected to "heart." Some things, we'll never know, but Seth has, in fact, seen some of Sarah's art (all of the sketches of these meaningful places were drawn by Sarah later on).
In the Boardroom.
Sarah fell in love freshman year in the Lyceum - not with Seth, but with Ole Miss. Every Monday, she had EDHE 105 with Mr. Dewey Knight as her instructor. It was through his stories that she truly saw the University in a different, more meaningful light. Sarah and Mr. Knight remained close friends after that semester - frequently meeting for breakfast in Oxford. Later, Sarah interviewed to become a member of the Columns Society whose principles are based upon the tenets of humble service, leadership and integrity. Seth joined Columns in 2017 and Sarah was inducted into the same in April 2018 in a Class named in honor of Dewey Knight. Seth was already a member of the Columns Society from the previous class. The 30 Society members would meet weekly in... the Lyceum. For months, Seth and Sarah would exchange greetings, but never spoke outside of the boardroom until they worked an event together later that fall. Looking back, the love of the Lyceum is a full circle moment (and if you are a true Ole Miss fan... how ironic is it that the Lyceum is located on "the circle" on campus?). It's all part of the domino chain.
HYDR.
Home to Tuesday Trivia, Seth frequents the Fairview Inn weekly. He hosted his fraternity, Delta Psi, "Toast to Tony" Day get together, which was Sarah's first time at Fairview Inn. She even made a comment pulling into the parking lot that "this would be great venue for a bridal shower" (take a hint, Seth). Tuesday, October 3rd was in fact trivia night. Sarah was in Jackson visiting Seth and was looking forward to finally joining him for a trivia night. They did, in fact, have trivia that night, however, Seth had other plans and this time, he wanted to ask the questions. Seth walked Sarah outside to the gazebo, got down on one knee and when asked if she would marry him, she said "hell yeah, damn right!"
I Love Him.
Both having a love for the arts, Seth and Sarah drove to Memphis for a special Orpheum performance of Les Misérables, Seth's favorite. The weather that night was rather terrible. As the storms were rolling through, the two were soaked walking into The Orpheum but looking forward to watching the much anticipated show. Winds were so strong, in fact, that Seth's umbrella turned inside out and - bless his heart - he fought with that thing left and right to keep his date dry. We just laughed it off, tossed the broken umbrella, and danced in the rain. During the song "On My Own", Seth leaned over and said to Sarah, "I'm so glad with you I don't feel alone" to which Sarah responded "just wait, she's about to admit she loves him" and finished it off with a wink and a hand squeeze.
Eat, Drink and Be Merry.
Seth will tell you their first date was on the Square. Sarah will say it was the Ghost Tour on campus. Regardless, the two spent many of their dates on the Square - whether walking hand-in-hand to grab breakfast (Seth's favorite meal), or for a drink after class (especially Torts). Many of their favorite dishes come from the various restaurants located throughout Oxford, where our guests will experience "a taste of Oxford" during the welcome reception Friday night!
Annual Tradition.
Hell Yeah Damn Right SEC football is a big part of our fall Saturdays - so much so, the two had to wait for the 2024 football schedule to be released before selecting a wedding date! We tried to find the most accommodating. Every year since graduating, the future Dickinsons make it a priority to return to at least one Ole Miss home football game, especially to see those against the Purple Shirts and Yellow Britches.
