“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it’s not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it doesn’t rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Amaya and Seth met online on March 10, 2022, and went on their first date three days later on March 13th in Manhattan Beach, California. On that day, Seth did not contact Amaya to confirm their first date, and Amaya worried Seth would not show up at all. Happily, as Amaya was parking by the beach, she received a text from Seth letting her know he was there. After their initial introduction, they spent their time walking together along miles of beach as the sun set, discussing their shared love for Jesus and future aspirations. During the evening, they joked, smiled, and laughed, and by the end, both hoped the date would not be their last. They began seeing each other every weekend. On their third date, Seth met Amaya’s parents and two sisters after Amaya lost her car keys on the beach at night. Fortunately, her family had her spare keys at home, and they all graciously drove together to bring Amaya the spare. Although Seth was not prepared to meet Amaya’s family that evening, he faced it courageously. On their fourth date, Seth finally asked Amaya to be his girlfriend, and to this day, that conversation is a core memory in their relationship. They quickly fell in love with each other, and spent their time together exploring Los Angeles, hiking, eating at Chick-Fil-A, watching Pepperdine baseball games, and attending church. On May 23, 2022, Amaya and Seth started dating long distance when Seth moved back to Indiana to study for the Indiana Bar Examination and start his legal career. Dating while over 2,000 miles apart was difficult for both of them, but they trusted that it was God’s plan for them during this season of their relationship and that He would work this out for good. Amaya and Seth visited each other every single month that they were apart, and remained in constant contact with each other through texting, Snapchat, FaceTime, letters, and connection bracelets. In the end, Seth and Amaya believe that dating long distance not only drew them closer to each other but also, more importantly, drew them closer to God and focused their relationship on Him. He has always remained faithful, and trusting in Him is what allowed their relationship to flourish despite the vast distance separating them. On February 11, 2023, Seth called Amaya and informed her that he had travelled to Los Angeles as a surprise visit and that she should clear her calendar for the day and come find him. That phone call began a lengthy treasure hunt, which led Amaya to the locations of their first four dates together. At each location, Amaya found a hidden clue, which would lead her to the next destination in the treasure hunt and included photographs, letters, and gifts relating to their initial dates. At the fourth location, Amaya found a code hidden in the bookshelves of a bookstore; upon providing the solved code to Seth, Amaya would obtain his location in Los Angeles. Once solved, Amaya drove to Redondo Beach where she met Seth in the sand with the most special proposal setup, and where he immediately asked her to be his wife. Amaya said yes without hesitation and believed it was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for her. After the proposal, Amaya and Seth met with Amaya’s family for an engagement dinner to celebrate the exciting news. It was the best day of their lives thus far, and they are so excited to get married and start their life together as one, united in Christ.
