Malta's capital Valletta is well worth a visit. You can get a cheap taxi there, or catch the ferry from Sliema which leave every 30 minutes. Full of shops, restaurants, bars, narrow streets and plenty of steps! Check out St. John's Co. Cathedral and see the largest painting by the rowdy master himself, Carravaggio. Also worth a visit, is the Saluting Battery in Valletta. Cannons fire twice daily, at noon (12:00) and 4 pm (16:00) every day except Sundays and public holidays.
Mdina: The Silent City. Mdina was founded over 4000 years ago. It is the oldest fortified medieval town in Malta and sits on top of a hill. You can get a Bolt (Taxi) for less than €20 from anywhere on the island. A couple of hours is enough to walk around and explore the many old, narrow streets and many churches. Game of Thrones was shot here!
The "Three Cities" in Malta refers to the fortified cities of Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua. These cities are located across the Grand Harbour from Valletta and are known for their rich history, impressive fortifications, and charming atmosphere. You can get the ferry from Valletta. The ferry runs every 30 minutes from early morning until late evening, with extended hours during the summer. The trip takes approximately 15 minutes and offers scenic views of the Grand Harbour.
Set on the southeastern coast of Malta, Marsaxlokk is a charming fishing village on Malta's southeastern coast, renowned for its vibrant harbor, colorful fishing boats (luzzus), and bustling Sunday market. Malta’s sister island, Gozo, is definitely worth a visit, either as a stand-alone destination or else for a day trip, using one of the ferry-boats connecting the islands. Definitely a quainter alternative to the mainland, with more green areas, Gozo is more sparsely populated and yet offers a myriad of attractions for the young and young at heart! A 25-minute ferry trip from the Cirkewwa terminal, found in the North of Malta, or a 45-minute ferry from the capital city Valletta, provides visitors and locals alike an experience of a more rural way of life.
