Flight
MTJ is aprox 90 minutes from Silverton. If you chose to fly into MTJ you will drive through a very beautiful town called Ouray. - We would recommend stopping to grab a burger and an order of the corn dip at Ouray Brewery - Time permitting, check out Box Canon Falls ($7 admission fee) on the way out of Ouray. It is short 500 foot walk into the canyon. The drive to Silverton from Ouray is along a highway named "The Million Dollar Highway." There are differing opinions whether this name came from the amount of money per mile it cost to build the highway, or for the million dollar views it provides. Either way, it is a stunning drive. Take it slow & enjoy the views! *Note - there are parts that are winding and narrow. It is a paved highway that is very commonly used (it is the only way to Silverton/Durango from Ouray), but we did want to mention this. We have driven this road multiple times and feel very comfortable on it. Any vehicle will be fine to drive this. AWD or 4WD is not necessary. Flight
DRO is also aprox 90 minutes from Silverton. You can either drive or take the scenic railroad (details below). If you chose to drive from DRO to Silverton, you will also catch the lower portion of the "Million Dollar Highway," that is described above. If you fly into DRO, stop by The James Ranch Market for a farm to table lunch that you can enjoy on the farm. The burger just might be one of the best you've ever had! The James Ranch is about halfway between DRO and Silverton. The address is: 33846 US-550 Durango, CO 81301
Train
This is such a fun way to travel to Silverton. It is a 3.5 hour scenic train. The only downside to this beautiful train ride is the departure time. The Silverton Steam Train departs daily at 9:00AM and 9:45 AM, meaning you might need to arrive in Durango Thursday 8/8 to make it to Silverton in time. The train leaves Silverton at 2pm and arrives in Durango at 5:30. See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ4WO67Rsz8
