On a sunny August day members of the Kings Singles Ministry gathered for their annual barbeque. It was here that the paths of Elisha and Sergina would collide in what would be an epic love story. Elisha, bruting and miserable about being stuck manning the grill for the third year in a row, would be approached by the quirky and audacious newcomer Sergina. Attracted by his sarcasm and wit, she decided to ask Elisha if he wanted a drink. Eventually he accepted her offer, after which they began to converse about their faith and life. Seeing her desire to further connect to the church, he got her number and bid her a good evening. The next day after careful thought, consideration and advice from a good friend, Sergina decided to shoot her shot and asked Elisha out to dinner. Impressed by her boldness Elisha accepted. This would be the unlikely beginning of an eventful and enduring love story.
Elisha set up date night one week in December and made reservations at Negril, the place where we had our first date. He also mentioned getting a mani-pedi that week and I became suspicious that this date night would be different from our dates in the past but I quickly put that thought in the back of my head. Saturday came fast that week and I was not feeling my best by Saturday night but something told me to rally. We went to dinner and I mentioned how I was suspicious that he would propose but he said nothing and continued to eat. It was a very cold night and not a lot of people were out and once dinner was over we planned to go to the promenade. The promenade was empty and peaceful. We walked and spoke about our relationship and our future. He pulled me to a stop at the end of the path and we took in the beautiful city view and he pulled out a square box and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. In complete shock I said nothing and then asked is this real???!!!! several times before he said yes and I screamed "YES" I tugged on his shirt to hurry him along to put the beautiful diamond on my finger. As we walked back to the car another couple happened to also be getting engaged we clapped for them as it confirmed love was in the air that night.
After weeks of planning it was time for me to put my plan into action. The first order of business was to gain the approval of her parents and family. After securing the blessing of her family I begun to plan our special night. To add sentimental value I decided to recreate our first date. However this would pose a challenge as we were experiencing the blistery cold of Winter as opposed to the heat of the Summertime. Despite these factors I stuck to the plan, determined to make the evening as special as possible. As I planned for the proposal I harped back on the countless times I heard women say that one of the key things to a good proposal is to ensure that your lady has her nails done. With this in mind I treated her to a mani-pedi, moving a step closer to the goal. That night, we went to Negril BK for dinner. She mentioned that she had the funniest feeling that I was going to propose to her but had dismissed the idea as crazy, I nervously laughed it off and agreed that she was way off with her speculations. Despite the bone chilling cold, she agreed to go with me to the Brooklyn promenade, which was the second part of our first date. As we walked along the promenade reminiscing about our relationship through the years I sensed it was time. That's when I uttered the words " You've been an amazing girlfriend for the past three years, and after tonight, I'm hoping that you'll be my wife." With those words I got on one knee and pulled the ring box out of my coat pocket. In utter disbelief she said "Is this real!!?" I ensured her that it was and she rushed me to put the ring onto her finger. The most fitting end to a magical night.
