Serenity and Jeremy knew of eachother in high school through mutual friends, but did not get to know eachother until the Summer of 2015 when they went to Bonnaroo Music Festival with a group of friends. They stayed up late almost every night of the festival, talking and laughing and dancing together. They instantly knew there was much more to discover about eachother, and they should spend more time together. Once back home in Raleigh, Jeremy asked Serenity if he could take her on a date to Coquette's French restaurant, which became the first date of many.

Jeremy and Serenity's best friend, Savannah, worked together to plan something completely unexpected. Once she knew the time was coming, Serenity was always suggesting ideas for a proposal. One day at the beach, Serenity brought up the idea of proposing at the Flaming Lips concert at Hopscotch Music Festival in Downtown Raleigh. Little did she know, Jeremy and Savannah had already planned on this as the perfect time to propose. However, Jeremy played it off and was able to hide his plans. On September 6, Serenity and Jeremy met downtown before the concert to grab a quick bite to eat. Jeremy was visibly nervous and took way too long to eat his Jimmy John's sandwich, so Serenity knew something was going on. As the concert started, they made their way up to the front. Jeremy, Savannah, and Aimee politely whispered to people to let them move up closer to the stage, as they had a photographer waiting to capture the moment. Just a few songs into the show, Jeremy turned around and got down on one knee in front of Serenity to ask her to spend the rest of her life with him. She burst into tears, and immediately said yes even though she had no idea what he was saying above the noise of the concert.
