The Topeka Zoo is a medium-sized zoo in Topeka, Kansas in the United States. It is located within Gage Park, just off I-70 in the north central portion of the city. Despite its size, it houses over 250 animals in a number of exhibits, including one of the first indoor tropical rain forests in the United States.

Lake Shawnee offers fishing, boating, sailing, and swimming. Within the 1,100-acre park surrounding the lake are foot trails, a golf course, a marina, tennis courts, shelter houses, ball diamonds, and campground that has 140 sites and is visited each year by people from 48 states and several countries which features 30 and 50 amp hookups and a dump station just across the road. 11 acres Arboretum and 9.5 acres of beautiful gardens.

The Combat Air Museum was organized in the Fall of 1976 as a wing of David Tallichet's Yesterday's Air Force. The group was chartered in April 1977 as Yesterday's Air Force Kansas. The founding group's interest was aroused by the declining number of WWII operable aircraft.Originally, the core of the display was aircraft from the Yesterday's Air Force large collection of dynamic historical aircraft. Most notable was the crown jewel of this collection, the B-24J Liberator bomber, the only one flying in the world at that time.In the beginning, aircraft and memorablia were displayed under an agreement whereby volunteers from the local group would restore and maintain Yesterday's Air Force aircraft in return for the privilege of displaying them. In 1979, the group reorganized under the name of Combat Air Museum and relocated to Hangar #602 at Forbes Field.

In 1917, Kansas City art collector Sallie Casey Thayer offered her collection of nearly 7,500 art objects to the University of Kansas to form a museum "to encourage the study of fine arts in the Middle West." Her eclectic collection included paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, furniture, rugs, textiles, metalwork, ceramics, glass, primarily from Europe and Asia. The University of Kansas Museum of Art, housed in Spooner Hall, was established in 1928 based on this collection. Over the years the collection has continued to grow thanks to the generosity of benefactors and the expertise of curators. Today, the Museum’s collection exceeds 45,000 objects spanning the history of European and American art from ancient to contemporary, with broad and significant holdings of East Asian art. Areas of special strength include medieval art; European and American painting, sculpture, and prints; photography; Japanese Edo-period painting and prints; and 20th-century Chinese painting.

For more than 140 years, scientists and students from the Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center have collected and studied life on Earth. The museum has more than eight million specimens of plants and animals, including prehistoric and living species gathered from every continent and ocean. Their collections include DNA samples, sound recordings, images, and field notes.

Prairie Park Nature Center offers programs for all ages, abilities, and interests. Prairie Park Nature Center houses a display hall with a surprisingly large selection of plants, birds, insects, reptiles, amphibians, fish and small mammals. The live species on display are supplemented by dioramas with stuffed animals, and also by wild birds and mammals which come up to the nature center's windows.

Walk among the fragrant rows of lavender bushes before harvest time – even the view is relaxing. Visit their store where they sell sachets, long-lasting dryer sheets, and a variety of lavender-related products such as hand-made pottery with lavender designs. Jack and Kathy can be seen at many local and regional farmers markets and festivals where they sell lavender and promote growing and using this unique plant.
