The couple briefly met back in high school through Selena’s matron of honor (Madison), but it wasn’t until early last year that they reconnected in a way that felt completely different. It had been years since they had seen each other, but from that point on, they knew the feeling they had was nothing like they’ve ever felt before. And since then have continued to grow more and more in love every day. Before they had reconnected, Selena was shown a picture of Daylen on Instagram, and when asked if she thought he was cute, she said, “Eh, not really… I like his flannel though.” However, that thought quickly changed the night they saw each other again at a “framily” party. Daylen spotted Selena from across the room and was excited to greet her because he thought she was gorgeous, but when he got to her, she went in for a handshake instead of a hug, pretty much locking in the friend zone… or so he thought. What Daylen didn’t know is that when he entered Selena immediately looked in admiration and thought “Wait, that’s what Daylen looks like?.” She fumbled at trying to greet him, and didn’t want him to know what she was thinking, so she awkwardly chose the handshake. As the night went on, Selena, instantly drawn to Daylen, ended up purposefully sitting her chair directly next to his while playing “Mexican Train.” Selena started throwing subtle flirtatious hints while Daylen was just focusing on trying not to mess anything up with the girl of his dreams. Later that evening, they found themselves having a meaningful conversation about their goals, dreams, faith, and what they wanted out of life. It didn’t take long for them to realize how compatible they were. A few weeks later, they went on their first date at Bone and Broth in Ontario, and they immediately knew they wanted to see each other again, and again, and again, and again. It wasn’t long before they realized that God had brought them together for a purpose, and they chose to steward the gift of their relationship intentionally. Through every season, their faith has been the foundation of their relationship, and they continue to see God’s hand in their story every day.
