This frequent casual dinner date spot for Corwin and Selena is most-deserving of the top spot on the list. Los Alteños is a cozy local restaurant with delicious authentic Mexican food. Enjoy a small bowl of pozole with a steak quesadilla dinner like Corwin, or go with Selena’s favorite comfort food, chorizo and eggs. Available for dine-in or go online/call ahead for take-out from 9am-10pm.
If you’re craving BBQ, Bombers is a highly favored spot in the Region. Get your favorite meats on a sandwich or a platter and any one of their beloved sides (we recommend the Sweet Potato Fries with Garlic Aoli sauce). They tend to run out of favorites later throughout the day, so call ahead to see if they still have something you like in stock! Bombers’ standard hours are 11am-8pm and open until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
A pizza place that doubles as a sports bar, Langels is our favorite spot to grab a slice, drink a Blue Moon, and watch the game. We recommend getting an order of fried pickles while you wait for the pizza to be done (we like deep dish!). Langels is open from 11am-11pm and open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
This local family owned restaurant boasts a wide range of food! From gyros and Greek chicken, to burgers and hot dogs, and even club sandwiches for those who might not have a large appetite. A childhood favorite and now a regular weekend take-out spot, Zantes has been Corwin and Selena’s place to take home a bacon cheeseburger before an evening of catching up on favorite shows. Drive-thru and dine-in are available from 9am-10pm.
Known to Selena by their old name “Les Brothers”, the local family-owned Les Cafe Pancake House has been a long-time favorite brunch spot for after church on Sundays or a family brunch on Saturdays. Since the wedding will be well into the afternoon, we recommend grabbing breakfast before getting together for the ceremony. (Selena may or may not also be there with a plate of biscuits and gravy before she has to get ready) Stop by any time between 6am-4pm.
If you’re looking for a brunch spot that’s open past most pancake house hours or a dinner spot for comfort food, the Purple Steer has been the place to go for almost 20 years. While Selena frequently chooses from the (all day) breakfast menu, they have many non-breakfast options on the menu as well. Corwin often orders the pork chop dinner, preceded by dinner rolls and a bowl of the locals’ beloved Lemon Rice soup. Enjoy a meal inside from 7am-8:30pm, or get take-out until 9pm.
Wicker Park is our favorite spot to stroll as soon as the weather warms up. And the best part is it’s free to visit! With a playground, splash pad, bike rental, beach volleyball, and plenty of picnic tables, Wicker Park is a great place to enjoy the outdoors. While the actual dog park requires paid registration, the walking trails are free, dog-friendly and include waste disposal stations throughout. The 2.5-mile trail along the perimeter of the park and the half-mile inner trail are both paved, making them perfect for walking, running, or biking. The entrance to the 2.5-mile trail can be located as the brown trail protruding diagonally upward between Pavilion A and Picnic Area #7, as located on the map linked below. The half-mile inner trail is seen as the brown ring along the inner perimeter of the parking lots and alongside Ridge Road. The link to the park’s outline is listed here, but can also be found at the bottom of the main website labeled “Park Map”. https://tdy.lol/fUsss
*Parking at Centennial Park is $2/hour or $5/day via their parking meters or through the “ParkByApp” app on the Apple and Google Play Store. Across the street from the beautiful (and free admission) Community Veterans Memorial Center and within arm’s reach of an entire plaza full of restaurants, Centennial Park is at the center of Munster’s most memorable photo ops. With a playground and a winding trail that traces around the Centennial Park pond, this is a gorgeous place to just relax and take a leisurely walk on a warm afternoon.
