Mitchell & Robyn both attended Forest Lake Senior High. Robyn was a senior when Mitchell was a junior when he first caught her eye as she was walking into volleyball practice & he was walking out to the football field. For the next 8 years, they would cross paths on several occasions as they had mutual friends… Robyn attended St. Cloud State & she would go over to “The Forest Lake House” where Evan Johnson, Mitchell’s Best Man, lived or there was also the time (after they started dating) when Robyn came across some photos in her phone of their friends from WeFest 2013 & realized Mitchell was there too. All those years of crossing paths with each other and they had yet to be formally introduced.
In November 2019, Mitchell could not get Robyn out of his head so asked his friend, Alexandra Murdock, about her. Luckily, Alexandra & Robyn were close in high school & had stayed in contact throughout college so Alexandra decided to put in a good word & play matchmaker. She brought him up to Robyn & that’s when Robyn connected the dots as to why a few weeks earlier, out of the blue, he sent her a good ol’ fashioned Facebook friend request. The same night Alexandra put in a good word for him to Robyn, Mitchell “slid into her DMs” (aka Facebook messaged) admitting to asking Alexandra about her, clearly interested. One week later, they went on their first date at the Green Mill in Roseville where they talked for hours over Bud Light with olives. This is when Mitchell learned that hiking Utah’s Zion National Park was on Robyn’s Bucket List. After dating for 8 months, June 2020, Robyn moved from Minneapolis & into “The Hugo House” to live with Mitchell. Just a few months later, November 2020, Mitchell was headed to work in Georgia for almost 5 months making it the first round of their relationship going long distance. That December, Robyn bought a last minute flight to visit him in Georgia. This was the first of their many travels & outdoor exploring together. They hiked the Appalachian Trail’s highest peak in Georgia, Blood Mountain, crossing off hiking the Appalachian Trail on Mitchell’s Bucket List.
Mitchell & Robyn finally made it to Utah to hike Zion National Park. Within hours of their first day being there, they went on their first hike of the trip up to the Upper Emerald Pools. Where he basically sprinted to the top & kept telling Robyn they would take their time going back down to take pictures. Once again, Mitchell told Robyn they should wait to take a picture since there were 30-40 people walking around that would be in the background of their photo. Finally, after what seemed like forever to Robyn, somehow there were only 6 other people up there with them. Robyn walked up to a couple asking the woman to take their picture, but the man said he would do it. After a couple photos, Robyn said they were fine (which was a lie), but she was impatient after waiting around & wanted to keep hiking while there was still daylight. Unexpectedly & a little out of character, Mitchell asked the man to take a few more photos. Only to then turn to Robyn & say “It’s time for you to become my wife. Will you marry me?” where she responded with a “Yes!...You’re lying!…& Thank you!”. Mitchell really set the standards high to make this bucket list item the most memorable one for Robyn.
