For those of you that know me (Sela), you know that I absolutely had zero interest in getting married.0. None. Whatsoever. My older sister, Lexi, however was not content to let me live out my spinster dreams and had plans of her own apparently. She held a little game night one brisk fall evening where I first met Jonathan, we talked a little, I stole his bottle of tequila gaining the nickname 'tequila thief' and I didn't think I'd see him again... until I saw him the very next night at another party! We talked the whole night. Like we were the only people there. It felt like the best conversation I've ever had; he was funny, smart, attentive, witty, and he didn't come on too strong. At the end of the night he asked for my number, and shockingly, I gave it to him (I usually pretend that I don't have a phone, even if I'm holding it at that moment). He texted me his name with a smiley face, and never texted me again. Spring rolls around and my sister invites me to accompany her and her boyfriend to one of my favorite (expensive) restaurants, their treat. Of course I said yes. 3 days before I'm going to gorge myself on the most delicious steak frites and butterscotch pudding you can't imagine (because sadly they shut down during covid), Lexi starts asking me many questions about Jonathan seemingly out of the blue: "What do you think about him? " "Do you think he's cute?" "Do you like him?" Mind you I haven't spoken to this man in nearly 6 months and only had 1.5 conversations with him. I'm now getting very suspicious and can sense she's up to something. She eventually told me that she invited Jonathan to come with us. I didn't believe her at first, until I, like any little sister read her text messages and realized that she did infect invite him and saw she was, in fact, telling the truth. Dinner was amazing, great company, great food, wonderful conversation. He was handsome, charming, funny- swoon. We talked everyday, all day after that. And the rest is history.
One brisk Autumn evening, I was invited by my friend Kadeem to a game night in Boston. I only thought I would go to support him and his new girlfriend, who he is now happily married to. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of friends I knew who were invited to the gathering, which relaxed me a bit, because ironically at the time I wasn’t acquainted with who was hosting the event. That’s when I first met Sela. I watched her organize and entertain everyone by getting games and group activities going. We talked briefly as the gathering was winding down and I was impressed by her hospitality. I left that night captivated by Sela’s charming personality only wanting to talk to her more. Little did I know I would unexpectedly see her the next night at another party! Not only did we talk most of the night, the quality of the conversation was so easygoing, so much so, I don’t even remember what we talked about. I was too distracted by her sense of humor, insightfulness, kindness, and intelligence. I asked for her number, for some reason she gave it to me, I texted her my name to make sure it was the right number, and she never responded, leaving me to think it was a fake number. Months later, going into Spring, my friend Jonah (fiancé of Lexi, Sela’s older sister) invited me to dinner during restaurant week in Boston. Unable to turn down a good meal, I accepted the invitation and thought nothing more of it. It didn’t dawn on me until about an hour before we all met up that Sela might be there also! The four of us went out, had great food and greater conversations. I was captivated by Sela’s beauty and her personality once again, and she finally responded to my text that night. That’s how our story begins. The next chapters of our lives will be greater than the last!
