Our Story

From Prom to Promise

Jenny Seib takes the credit for setting Eric up with her daughter, Carly. One evening during the last few weeks of Carly and Eric's senior year at Grandview, Mama Seib somehow cornered Eric at her house at Carly's birthday party, casually, nonchalantly (read: very obviously and probably very loudly in a Southern accent) happened to mention to Eric that Carly did not have a date to prom yet. He wasted no time. Just a few weeks later, Carly wore her signature royal blue gown to Eric's playoff baseball game before heading to the dance. Mama knows best. That fall, Eric went on to play division-one baseball at Utah Valley University while Carly accepted a spot on the first ever division-one women's soccer team at CSU. They dated long distance for four (long) years before Eric moved home to Colorado after graduation, and they both started their graduate programs. Eric is studying to be a special education teacher. Carly, a physical therapist. As Carly's older sister, I feel like I'm entitled to brag a little: these two have hearts of 24000k gold. They both chose to devote their gifts, their skills -- their lives -- to helping other people in need. And even more, they chose to devote themselves to one another. I could not be more proud of them, and I could not be more excited to celebrate their union. So Mama Seib, you deserve the credit for letting it slip that Carly might -- just maybe, possibly, okay definitely-- say yes to a prom proposal. But Eric, I have to say, takes the smash hit for the wedding proposal. On Carly's favorite holiday, the 4th of July, Eric drove Carly and her cousin, Annie, to Horsetooth Reservoir which is one of her favorite spots in the world. He asked Annie to take a photo of Carly and him at the top of the hike, and before Carly knew what was happening, Eric bent down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Annie, in complete shock, just kept snapping pictures. He did it. He surprised and delighted Carly completely. He did it. Finally.
