Travel

With everyone flying in from across North America and Europe, here's a little guide to transport for getting to Assisi.

Travel Note

Covid restrictions

We both travelled to Italy in the last week of March. Flying from the UK was easy - just make sure you: - Have a face mask (FFP2 or KN95 are preferred - £9.99 for 5 at Boots); - Fill out the passenger locator form; - Download the NHS app for Covid vaccine travel pass (or print it just to be safe), for US citizens, the paper covid vaccine card was fine; - Depending on where you are, hotels and restaurants may ask for a Green Pass, which is basically proof of vaccine OR negative covid test; - To enter Italy, you need either proof of vaccine or a negative test (no need to isolate if you have either). Please note that this information may change on 1st April. We will update if so!

Flight

San Francesco d'Assisi Airport

The closest airport to Castello Di Petrata, with direct flights available from London. 20 minute drive to the venue. There is a taxi rank outside the airport - please make sure you ask they take card or you have no cash, and check whether it is a meter or pre-agreed price.

Train

Assisi Railway Station

Driving from Assisi Railway Station to Castello Di Petrata takes roughly 15 minutes. The journey from Rome to Assisi via train is 2 hours (there are direct trains). There are usually taxis waiting outside the station. Please check beforehand whether they are meter or pre-agreed price, and whether they take card or cash only.

Rental Car

Europcar

We definitely recommend hiring a car to get around if you're comfortable driving. There are plenty of rental places at the airport (pre-book online). Umbria is the countryside, with Assisi and Perugia very hilly. These hills can be quite steep as well. Our wedding venue has plenty of parking place, and is also high up in the hills. If you don't drive, don't worry! Lots of taxis around, and we will be organising transport for the day of our wedding. Note: Europcar, Hertz, Avis, Budget and AutoEuropa are some of the big car rental companies in Italy

Hotel

Glamping on site

The wedding venue has the option to glamp if you wish. There are 20 tents which accommodate 2 persons per tent. Communal bathroom and shower for those glamping however, as we have exclusivity of the venue, all those using the communal spaces will be guests. If you're interested, please let us know.
