As much as I would love to embellish the story of how Trent and I met, I keep to the simple, straightforward answer: online. Yep, I said it. The funny thing is that we have saw each other out in public before, but never started talking until I messaged him asking for his phone number. Bold move, I know. We instantly formed a connection and were eager to meet up in person. However, Trent will probably tell you that I bailed on him on our scheduled first date. Don't worry, I redeemed myself. We decided to meet up for our first date at a local bar/restaurant where we drank Jack Daniels and craft beer. I probably would have married him right then and there if he would have asked. We quickly learned about each other's interests, careers, families, passions, and goals. It is safe to say we hit it off, and a second date was planned, then a third, then...you get the picture. The next 4 and a half years included a healthy dose of brewery hopping, whiskey sippin', tailgating, backyard cornhole tournaments, bike riding, and impromptu adventures that eventually led to the proposal. Our usual 10 mile bike ride through town was cut short when Trent suggested we park our bikes and walk around the gorgeous scenery. I was completely taken back when Trent turned to face me, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. Seeing as you're currently on our wedding website, you can safely assume that I said yes.
Persistence was key to beginning our relationship after initially getting the text of “I can’t go out due to my car needing to go into the shop." In my mind it was an interesting way of Melissa backing out and I thought that was it. However, I decided to see if she could go out another night and it was a yes! The plan was to meet for drinks at Funcks, doesn’t seem to over the top romantic, but as we got know each other more, it was definitely our kind of date, craft beer and good company! Her first drink of jack and diet coke (possibly just a diet coke) was the first good sign on the first date, little did she know that her first drink order was so important moving forward! Frozen drink meant red flags, beer would’ve been a good order, but Jack Daniels was the jackpot. What she ordered was something my brother and I kind of joked about as being a good tell on what she was like and we said if she orders whiskey, she’s a keeper as joke, but low and behold whiskey it was! Although a funny little way to get a first impression, it wasn’t just the drink order that had me sold, she was nice, funny, and really easy to keep a conversation with, and also nice on the eyes! We made a quick connection over the next couple weeks which led to us building a relationship as a couple officially on March 4th. Getting to know her, her family, and friends made it exciting to be together over the past 4 years. Seeing her interact with my family also showed me I need to hold on to her. We’ve traveled, been each other’s plus ones, celebrated holidays and birthdays together, and even bought a house. I know over the past 4 years together she is my person and we have so much more to look forward to together in marriage.
