Some people meet on dating apps, others through friends, some at work and a few at a bar during thanksgiving break, but then, there is Seanna and I. For those of you that don’t know, Seanna and I met in Dominica, and no, that is not the Dominican Republic. Dominica is a small Caribbean island in the middle of nowhere, where Seanna and I went to medical school. It is the place where the Bostonian beauty became my neighbor, my walking buddy, my best friend and eventually my fiancé. Life on the island wasn’t anything we expected, it took some getting used to. I had to buy electricity in units at the local grocery store, turn on a light switch that warmed up my shower water and learned to drink Caribbean beer, that one was easy. Lucky for me, I was blessed with the friendliest neighbor on the island. I still remember the day that Seanna and Michelle moved in, however, It wasn’t for a few weeks until our paths finally crossed, and I yelped out, Hey Neighbor! Seanna and I became quick friends. On our journey to class, I came to realize how much we had in common. We both listened to the same jams, we both played basketball (I’m definitely better) and we both LOVEEEE Mexican food. As time went on, classes changed, tests got harder, and stress levels peaked, but the only thing that stayed consistent was my relationship with Seanna. It’s unbelievable that I had to travel 2000 miles to D&F apartments in Portsmouth, Dominica to meet my life partner, but I’m glad that I did. Garth Brooks said it best, some of Gods greatest gifts are unanswered prayers and I thank God every day for not answering my prayers in the Fall of 2014. My desire was always a Texas medical school, but my path was always Dominica, I just didn’t know it. I wasn’t sent to Dominica to attend medical school, I was sent there to meet my wife.
March 18, 2018 was the day that I asked Seanna the easiest question of my life, Will You Marry Me? Seanna and I consistently have battles of Texas vs Massachusetts. Naturally, Seanna tries to sell me the Northeast every chance she gets, so obviously every weekend getaway she plans is in New England. Hence, she booked our post-match vacation at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel in New Hampshire. This snow palace was a few hours’ drive from Boston and we couldn’t wait to sit by the fire, people watch and sip some wine. As we arrived, little did Seanna now that I had already hijacked her trip and planned to propose. Checking in, Seanna asked for an upgrade, got it of course, and unknowingly threw a wrench in my plan. The pre-decorated rose petal champagne room I set up days prior, was now ready for some unknowingly random couple. After checking into our empty upgraded room, we decided to go straight downstairs to get some food. As Seanna and I feasted, with the help of my parents, I secretly talked to the concierge and planned to decorate our new room. After several hours of eating and drinking we finally made it back to room 417. As Seanna opened the door, and reality set in, I dropped to one knee…
