Sean and I met in Galveston, Texas in November of 2015. We both attended our college ministry retreat and had no idea we would met our future spouse. Funny thing is, we had been in the same bible study for over a year, yet we did not meet until the retreat was almost over. That Saturday morning in November all of our friends decided to go down to the beach to do our quiet time and we all hopped in cars and took of. I saw a guy and a couple people getting into a nice blue F150 and I defiantly joined. I mean It was a super nice truck and the guy driving was pretty good looking too. As the day went on, we drove to different places and started sharing memories together that we will never forget. We both were not looking for a relationship and yes I thought this boy was cute but no way we were going to date. That night we were in bible study groups and I saw him in a whole new way. He wanted to date to marry, wanted to honor the Lord in his relationships, and he was super sweet and patient - I need that! I remember texting my mom and best friend pictures of him and telling them all about him (I know so junior high lol). We just clicked in every conversation we had and I even pretended that I didn't know how to two step so he would teach me. We strive each day to show the Lord through us and our relationship.
Sean- I knew that she was the one about a year in. After talking we could see the hand of the Lord God in every aspect of our lives, and I knew this proposal needed to be special. After thinking of where, it dawned on me, the mountains. I remembered how mountains played such a role in the Bible and the symbols they represented in life. With Moses going up to meet the Lord God on Mount Sinai in Exodus 19, Jesus giving the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5-7, and many other stories. With mountains representing milestones, mighty obstacles, and something of beauty and power. With their jagged edges and almost impossible to navigate terrain there is somehow beauty in the chaos, and isn’t that marriage and life in a shell? We go through life, guided by the Lord God, not knowing what’s to come, at times being defeated by the circumstances that lay ahead, but when we look back at the master piece God has constructed, it is nothing but awe inspiring and beautiful. So, it was set, I would gather a group of close friends that wouldn’t be odd to go on an adventure with and set off. The weekend that I planned to propose, Colorado for some reason had unusual amounts of snow. It was the end of May and they were getting several feet of snow, but we still pressed on. When Friday rolled around, nothing but blues skies, perfect weather for a hike. When we got to the mountains it took us four hours to get to the top, but once we got there it was worth it. As we starred at the beauty of the mountain before us, I slowly lead her to an area that was out of the way so we could get great pictures, for the gram of course. I had a small speech planned telling her how much I love you and what these mountains represent, but when the time came and I was standing next to the person who I would trust to climb the mountain of life, I was speechless. All I could say was…will you marry me.
