We went to a small college, had so many of the same friends, and countless mutual interests, but (somehow) didn't actually know each other until Spring of our senior year. After that is when our story began, even though in the beginning we were "just friends". And we really were. Hannah's next step: moving to DC and attending graduate school; Sean's: moving to Lancaster, PA for work and attending graduate school. Throughout the next few weeks, we learned two things: 1. Sean was moving to Hannah's hometown and 2. We were attending the same graduate school - George Washington University. With those discoveries and commonalities came more talking, more laughing, and more time spent together. We began to realize just how easy it was together, and how we had an undeniable ability to just make things work. What followed this was many months of 3 hour drives, city adventures, Wednesday (sometimes Thursday) night phone call "dates" and embarking on our road less traveled.
Our time as a long distance couple was hard, but it continued to draw us closer. As our love grew, so did the inevitability to of wanting to live in the same state. So, flash forward to May 2018 when we were about to get that chance. Both of us were finishing up Master's degrees and we quickly realized that DC together was goal., Weeks after Hannah's graduation in May, Sean was offered a job in DC and moved to the District. Everything seemingly fell into place from there. We went from being 112 miles apart to 0 miles apart and there was no better feeling. The summer of 2018 confirmed what we had both felt in our hearts for a long time - this was what we wanted forever.
After a few months of living in DC, we planned a weekend trip to Williamsburg, VA. The first day of our trip started off rocky. But no fear, because we ended up doing what we love - watching college football, being together. The next day, Sunday October 7, 2018 we went to Colonial Williamsburg. Our day began a tour of the blacksmith's studio. Being completely transparent, neither one of us paid attention to this tour - we we are already looking forward. So, at the end, we decided to do another tour. This time of the Governor's Mansion. We went through the whole tour of the beautiful house and stumbled into the garden. It was there, in the most peaceful setting, that Sean got down on one knee and asked Hannah to be his wife. The answer was yes (of course), so we sat down overlooking a garden pond. Just was us, just happy. Then, we spent the rest of day calling and texting our family and friends to share our love! That was the end our engagement story, but just the beginning of our story. Two strangers who became best friends, who became each other's forever.
Our story contains all the big moments: meeting, moving in together, getting engagement and more. But what's most 'us" is the everyday aspects of life. We fell in love with each other through our everyday adventures - the time in the car traveling to see friends & family; the Thursday through Monday football watching madness; the adventures in our favorite city; the nights spent at home watching Netflix; the times we aren't at our best; the date nights to the movies; and the amazing feeling of getting to see each other each and every day. So here's to our beginning, our time spent long distancing, our engagement, our everyday life and most importantly, our future.
