Sean and Amelia met on a dating website called Bumble. They talked for about a week and then decided to meet up and go on a date. They met at Well Played board game bar in Downtown Asheville, NC, where they played King of Toyko. Sean won that first game, but you could say they both walked out of Well Played as winners! They finished at Well Played and went to Hemmingway's Rooftop restaurant where they shared a bottle of wine, tapas, and great, easy conversation. They then walked around downtown Asheville and went to Sovereign Remedies for a nightcap before parting ways on that first date. It was a really fun night for both of them, and it led to them hanging out almost every day that week!
Leading up to The proposal... Sean and Amelia started dating in June. They talked openly of marriage, having both decided that the other was the person for them. During their talks, Sean mentioned that he might want to sell his house before they got married, and at one point he mentioned that he was going to wait to put his house on the market until six months after they got engaged. In another conversation, Sean said, "I think I'm going to put the house on the market in June." These conversations clued Amelia into the possibility that a proposal might be coming. Amelia confided in a few of her friends a week before Christmas that she thought that Sean was going to propose sometime around Christmas. Amelia's mom came into town for a visit, and to drive to Florida with Amelia for Christmas. Sean's mom and grandmother were also in town for the weekend. It was then that Amelia realized that there couldn't be more perfect opportunity for Sean to propose to her. Day of The Proposal... It was decided that they would go to the Biltmore Estate that morning with everyone: Sean, Amelia, Sean's kids Ryan and Mari, Amelia's mom, and Sean's mom and grandmother. They were all walking around the house and Sean was making Amelia mad all day, because she wanted to walk around the Biltmore together, but Sean had to keep his kids entertained, which is a given when it comes to having kids. The proposal didn't happen at the Biltmore, and Amelia was a little disappointed about it. The family went to dinner to Hickory Tavern that evening. Sean was pushing Amelia's buttons again and making her mad. Then Sean starts asking her, "So, do you want to put your money where your mouth is?" Amelia looked at him and responded, "What are you saying...?" Sean got out of his seat, pulled the ring out (dropping it on the floor in the process!) and asked again, "Do you want to put your money where your mouth is?" Amelia said to him, "Well you have to ask me first!" Sean did, and Amelia said yes!
