Our story begins in Tulum, Mexico, on a law school trip right before graduation—because nothing says romance like a group of exhausted law students desperately trying to enjoy vacation while ignoring the looming bar exam. One night at dinner, fate (and our friends) sat us across from each other at the very end of a long table, where we quickly discovered two things: (1) we could not hear any of the group conversation from the end of the table, and (2) Justin Bieber’s Peaches is, objectively, a banger. Somewhere between the off-key singing of the Aggie War Hymn and way too much wine, we just clicked. The rest of the trip, we kept gravitating toward each other—holding hands, giggling, and sneaking off for quiet moments together. But the moment I (Courtney Elizabeth) knew we were one of the same was when we found ourselves sitting side by side on beach chairs, under the coconut trees, in complete comfortable silence. No words, no pressure—just the sound of the waves, the warm breeze, and a feeling that was calm, familiar, and right. Back home, we found every excuse to “study together,” which mostly meant quizzing each other on legal doctrines while pretending we weren’t obviously into each other. But we were responsible, so we waited until after the bar exam to make it official—because nothing kills the mood like the Rule Against Perpetuities. Fast forward through years of laughter, life transitions, owning a home together, and parenting two miniature schnauzers together. Here we are—ready to make it officially official.
