Us

As Written and Mis-Remembered by Scott

Some love stories start with a meet-cute. Ours started with... middle school. So, you know, acne, braces, and peak social awkwardness. We vaguely knew each other at Holmes Middle School thanks to a Venn diagram of mutual friends. The starting point for our story? A bat mitzvah for our friend Anna, where the attendees were Jenny, Teresa, a couple other friends and me; the lone 13-year-old boy on the guest list wondering what I’d gotten myself into. Honestly, foreshadowing. Fast forward through Coronado High, a few more close-but-not-quite moments, and eventually a beer pong party at Joe’s Bar in 2009 where we briefly reconnected but I found out she was moving away (enter sadness). Then in 2013, a simple Facebook message from me got us really reconnected. I discovered she was moving back to Colorado Springs and I couldn't have been more excited! Maybe the time had finally come! First date? Check: Two sushi enjoyers dining at Jun’s. Second date? An awkward but sweet trip to the Renaissance Festival, where it rained, she had the umbrella, and I heroically pretended I didn’t mind being soaked so she could stay dry. Chivalry isn't dead — it’s just damp. From there, it’s been games, adventures, shared chaos, and a whole lot of life together. We've survived family trips, lived through a pandemic (and each other), moved in together, bought a house, and got engaged on the day we moved in, silicone ring and all. Now, we've arrived at a peak of our love story that will catapult us into our future together, and we can’t wait to celebrate with the people who’ve been part of our journey all along the way!
