We first crossed paths and met in 2016 at the Aurora Police Department when I attended the Citizen Police Academy class. As part of APD's Community Oriented Policing unit, Scott was one of the class instructors. After the 10 week class, I went on to join the alumni group, which involved volunteering and fundraising for the APD. Time went on and we would see each other around the APD and soon became friends. We would also see one another at different community events over the years. In March of 2018, I attended a celebration of life for a dear friend's brother and to my surprise Scott was there as well. We were both there to support our friend and sat next to one another the whole time. I also met Harold, Scott's dad, that day. We chatted and shared stories that day - we learned a lot about each other. Shortly after, Scott was promoted to Sergeant. I attended Scott's promotional ceremony at the APD as part of the Citizen Police Academy alumni group. In his new role as Sergeant, Scott left the Community Oriented Policing unit, moved back to Patrol and was moved to 3rd shift, midnights, so our run-ins were less frequent. As friends, we would keep in touch though. Fast forward to June of 2020, I was invited to a friend's going away party - she was leaving Aurora and moving out of state. When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised to see Scott there! At the end of the party, Scott offered me a Harley ride and the rest is history!
