August 24th, 2015 ... It was my Junior year and Scott's Senior year when two mutual friends introduce us in a hallway at the University of Notre Dame: "Hi, Scott, nice to meet you. So, are you a freshman?" I said as we shook hands for the first time. "No, I'm a senior." Scott sweetly answered. August 10th 2019... We are on the beautiful cliffs of La Jolla, San Diego. "Monica Grace Robinson, will you marry me?" Scott said down on one knee. "YES! Of course, I'll marry you." On that fateful day of 2015, Little did I know, that I would be meeting my future husband. I'm just glad that Scott asks better questions. ;-)
After we met, and went on a few dates, Scott asked me to be his girlfriend. The rest, as they say, is history ;) Over the next few months, we took any and every opportunity to talk– whether texting or in person. We studied together though we didn’t take any of the same classes. We attended NDCA, a Christian bible study group on campus. By the time Scott graduated, we knew we had something special. Though our relationship became long-distance (Scott to Chicago and Monica to __insert country__), we never gave up and believed in our love. Years later, post multiple trips and countless Facetime calls in different time zones, we now find ourselves ready to take the next step and end distance once and for all. We could not be more excited to celebrate our wedding ceremony with each of you, who have played (and will continue to play) such an important part in our lives.
We were both in San Diego and had the rare occurrence of both having a day off, so Monica being the fun and adventurous woman she is, recommends a great idea for both of us. Monica: "Hey babe, why don't we go to six flags? Sounds like fun right?" Scott: "Actually I was thinking we could go to La Jolla!" Monica: "Hmm...I mean I guess we could do that..." Little did Monica know, I had a few surprises waiting for her later that day. I took her down to La Jolla where we enjoyed a beautiful dinner on the water and under the impression that we were going to see a show immediately after. So after dinner, I suggested that we catch the sunset before we head to the show! We proceeded to head down to the La Jolla Coves where our amazing helpers (Caitlyn Daly, Tony Robinson, Fernando Delgado and Ana Luiza Melo) prepared this amazing set up of candles and rose pedals where I would eventually ask THE QUESTION! By the time we reached the Cove, I began to play our favorite song Lovebug by the Jonas Brothers and it was in that moment that Monica truly realized what was happening. Our hidden photographer captured the entire moment from start to finish as we walked down to our heart shaped candle where I finally proclaimed my love for her and asked her to spend the rest of my life with me! After the many tears and kisses, the group who helped out with the set up surprised Monica and began a whole new wave of happy tears as we hugged, showed off the ring and took many pictures with the photographer as the sun set. As if there weren't enough surprises in one day, the REAL surprise was waiting for Monica back at her house where myself and Monica's amazing mother, Daisy, helped organize a surprise engagement party with her closest family and friends (including my parents who flew all the way from Chicago for the occasion) It was a perfect day surrounded by loved ones & we cannot wait to continue the celebration with all who come on June 26th at the place where it all started!
