Think of it as a reception. Although we are taking vows alone, we still want to celebrate our marriage with family and friends! There will not be a ceremony, this is a cookout-style party with food, games, and dancing.
When you pull up to the park gate, please try to avoid mentioning Shelter 5 and/or "wedding," to the staff. There is a limit on how many cars can come to the event, and since we're not sure how many cars total our guests will bring, we don't want to draw extra attention to it.
Whatever you are most comfortable in! This is not a formal event whatsoever. Think spring picnic. The forecast is sunny with a high of 59 degrees, so plan accordingly if you need a jacket or coat.
Yes, the park entrance fee is $5-$7 Per Car (Discount Applied for Senior Citizens and Military). Please ensure you are using the Sandling beach entrance, as there are several entrances to this large park. If you have any questions, the park rangers at the gate are very helpful.
No, we will not be serving alcohol at the cookout. There would be some hoops to jump through since it's taking place at a state park. That being said, we don't have strong opinions about what anyone drinks, just note that we expect there not to be any visible alcohol or intoxicated behavior. We will have sweet and unsweet tea, lemonade, and water.
Ole' Time BBQ is catering! Think bbq pork, bbq chicken, fried chicken, sides, and banana pudding. We will also be bringing a huge salad.
Yes! Bring your kids. Note: the park shelter is on wooded land and is just a few feet away from a large lake, so just something to note in case you need to bring an epi-pen, and/or your kid tends to wander :) We will have some lawn games set up, but feel free to bring your own! There is a grassy area next to the shelter.
Yes! The parking lot and shelter are flat and paved. There is a designated picnic table in the shelter that accommodates a wheelchair. There are accessible bathrooms connected to the shelter.
There is a parking lot right in front of Shelter 5. If this parking lot is full, park in the lot for Shelter 4, and it's just a short walk over.
