Even though they attended the same small university in Columbus, OH, Scott and Kaela didn't meet until two days before they graduated. The university held a party for all the graduates and because they shared many of the same friends, they attended in the same group. When they met, Kaela said, "Hey, I'm Kaela" and Scott responded, "What's up? I'm Scott" and thus began the slowest play of all time.

Almost a year and a half after graduation and multiple attempts at creating an "accidental" meeting on both of their parts, Scott and Kaela finally realized that the other was into them, too. Scott was going to follow the Three Day Rule, but Kaela texted Scott that night and asked him on a real date. Apparently, she's not familiar with the basic rules of dates. They went for pizza the next day and agreed to split a jalapeno pie even though Kaela hates spicy things. She wanted to seem cool and adventurous. After the date, Scott decided that she was indeed pretty cool and adventurous even though the pizza made her sweat and cry a bit.

While preparing for a two month van-adventure, Scott decided that he was going to propose to Kaela. With ring in hand he asked her parents, and then they drove west. While they were in California, Kaela wanted to go to a winery so they spent the afternoon with gorgeous views, perfect weather, and wonderful wine. They started talking about their future and where they wanted to go in their lives. In the excitement of the conversation, Scott told Kaela that he had a ring hidden in the van and was waiting for the perfect moment. That made Kaela freak out a bit (in a good way), but they tried to move on to a different topic. Kaela couldn't wait though and said, "Do you want to just do this now?" because she's really bad a surprises. He ran to the van, bought a bottle of champagne, and got down on one knee. She didn't say a whole lot because of all the crying, but it was pretty obvious what her answer was.
