Save the date

Scott and I met while working side by side in a restaurant, living two completely separate lives that did not seem to overlap at all. We were both at My Thai Kitchen, coming from different places and different seasons, with what felt like very little in common. At the time, I was front of house, moving fast and keeping everything running smoothly, while Scott was new, young, and still figuring things out. I spent a lot of time trying to teach him how to be a proper server, though focus was never his strong suit. Eventually, he was eased off the schedule, but giving up was not in his nature. One of the kitchen guys offered to teach him how to use the wok, and that decision changed everything. Scott found his rhythm in the kitchen, earned more hours, and before long was running it. By the time we both left the restaurant four years later, he had truly made that space his own. Somewhere in the middle of all that, we became the classic front of house and back of house duo, quietly and without anyone knowing. Scott had been asking me to go to the movies for weeks, and one day I finally said yes. That turned into what must have been eight movies, none of which we can remember, followed by simple picnics at the park. We would lie in the grass, stare up at the clouds, and talk about nothing and everything. Those quiet moments, shared without any expectations, slowly grew into something lasting. What began as two separate paths crossing in the most ordinary of places became a life we now get to share together.
