One thing to know about Scott and I - there is always a bottle of Ridge in our house! Both their reds and whites are superb so pick your preference and you won't be disappointed. But if we had to choose just one, it would be the Monte Bello (a Bordeaux blend)!
Built in 1857, Buena Vista is Napa Valley's oldest winery and a California Historic Landmark. It has a rich history and a committed family that keeps its story alive today. This is a must-see on your first trip to California wine country.
Chateau Montelena is best known for the Judgement of Paris that put California wine on the map. The Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, also known as the "Judgment of Paris", was a wine competition organized in Paris by Steven Spurrier, a British wine merchant and his colleague, Patricia Gallagher, in which French judges carried out two blind tasting comparisons: one of Chardonnays and another of red wines (Bordeaux wines from France and Cabernet Sauvignon wines from California). It was Chateau Montelena's 1973 Chardonnay that won first place for the Chardonnay's, which caused surprise as France was generally regarded as being the foremost producer of the world's best wines. Fun fact - the first place winner of the red category was also a California wine; Stag's Leap 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon.
