Way back in 2015, Amanda and Scott first met as plus-ones to their respective college roommates, who were meeting up at Joe’s Brewery in Champaign, Illinois, while they were at the University of Illinois. Hours of conversation flew by while their roommates patiently made awkward small talk, and when it was time for Amanda to leave, Scott knew he had to ask for her number. She said yes, kissed him on the cheek, and he was forever smitten. Like many college relationships, theirs was exciting but short-lived, and though it didn’t work out then, Amanda was always in the back of Scott’s mind as the one who got away. Five years later, while they both were living in Chicago, and with a little assist from a dating app that let him know she was single, he decided to shoot his shot again and texted the same number she’d given him at Joe’s all those years ago. Fast forward three months into their new relationship, Amanda received a promotion that sent her across the country to San Diego. She suggested trying long-distance and seeing how it goes - no pressure, no promises. That turned into three years of FaceTime dates, monthly visits, countless flights (and some truly brutal overnight layovers on budget airlines), and adventures hiking in Hawaii and Alaska, wine tasting in Mexico, parading in New Orleans, barbequing in Austin, and skiing in Colorado. Eventually, Scott made the move to San Diego where they've been living together for almost two years. Then, on a hazy morning at Sunset Cliffs, exactly four years after their second first date, Scott asked Amanda to marry him. Thankfully, she said yes.
